The Lady Vees took on the Carleton Ravens Saturday, February 6 at the Ben Avery Gym. They lost a well contested battle which saw opportunities go each way. Norma Jean Roberts of Burnaby, British Columbia finished with a team high 13 points and was able to grab three rebounds. Jessica Resch of Orleans, Ontario lead the Ravens with 17 points while grabbing two rebounds.
The first quarter started strong as both teams battled for the ball. The Ravens opened the scoring early in the frame and put pressure on the Lady Vees. The game went back and fourth for the majority of the quarter with the Lady Vees holding a 7-6 lead at one point. The Ravens finished the quarter strong to take a 15-9 lead after one.
The second frame continued just as the first had ended as the Ravens began to pull away from the Lady Vees. However, after a poor rebounding performance in the first quarter the Lady Vees outrebounded the Ravens 12-7 in the frame and 20-15 entering halftime. The Lady Vees were able to claw their way back into the game in the latter half of the quarter and shots began to fall and rebounds were being picked up. Both teams shot approximately 33 per cent in the first half with the Ravens going 12-35 to the Lady Vees 8-24. Despite the Ravens strong started the Lady Vees were able to battle back into the game to end the half with the Ravens up three, 26-23.
Once again the third quarter opened with the Ravens scoring early, going on a 6-0 run. The Lady Vees tried to keep the game close but were out preformed, falling 14-2 in the frame.
The Lady Vees went on a 5-0 run to start the fourth. Their efforts came up short however, as the Ravens were able to hold off the Lady Vees to secure the victory, 55-39. The Lady Vees shot 27 per cent compared to the Ravens 35 per cent.
"They are great defensively and they rebound really well," said head coach Mike Clarke. "They are the top rebounding team in the conference and were pretty much even with them on the boards."
