After falling by 15 points to the Laurentian Voyageurs the night before, the Gee-Gees really stepped things up Saturday evening against the York Lions to defeat them 68-60.

The Gee-Gees outscored the Lions the first three quarters and were up by 25 points until the last three minutes of the game. The Lions then fought back in the final minutes to minimize the lead to eight points, but the Gee-Gees would not let them take the win.

Third-year centre Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto, Ont.) once again led both teams in scoring and rebounding with 18 points and an impressive 14 rebounds. First-year forward Charlotte Mackenzie (Ottawa, Ont.) was the team’s second leading scorer and rebounder with 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Also having a strong performance for the Gee-Gees was first-year guard Kayte Chase (Cornwall, Ont.) “Kayte really set the tempo for us tonight,” noted Gee-Gees head coach Andy Sparks. Chase played a strong defensive game and also helped set things up on offense, recording 6 assists.

“We responded well from last night’s game [against Laurentian],” added Sparks. “We played much better; it was definitely a positive game for us.”

The Gee-Gees are on the road again next weekend, facing Queen’s (12-8 OUA) on Friday, February 12, and RMC (0-20) Saturday, February 13. Game times are 6:00 p.m.
