The No. 3-nationally ranked Western Mustangs extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 5-4 win over the host No. 10 ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. The Mustangs move to 12-2 on the season, with the Hawks falling to 9-4-1.

Both Western and Laurier capitalized on their power play opportunities early with Kevin Baker (Georgetown, Ont.) for the Mustangs beating Jeff MacDougald (Shallow Lake, Ont.) short side and then Jason Bergeron (Ancaster, Ont.) flipping the puck over Keyvan Hunt (Coquitlam, B.C.). Geoff Killing (Embro, Ont.) scored to put the visitors up in the back and forth period, but Jean Michel Rizk (Dunham, Que.) tied it up with another power play marker. Mike Sharp (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) netted his first of two in the contest to end the first period with the Mustangs up 3-2.

After giving up three goals on five shots in the first, head coach Kelly Nobes pulled MacDougald in favour of Ryan Daniels (Pickering, Ont.) to start the second.

The period opened with Sharp getting his second goal of the game to give the visitors a two goal margin. Paul Bradley (Calgary) would whittle that back down to one with Laurier's first even strength goal of the contest.

In the third two straight penalties against the Hawks cost them, with Turkiewicz scoring at just 2:44 in to the frame. Jeff Borrows (London, Ont.) connected with Ryan Bellows (St. Catharines, Ont.) to make the game a one-goal contest, but even with the netminder pulled the Hawks couldn't capitalize on their opportunities.

Daniels made several solid stops for the Hawks while turning aside 24 of 26 shots in the remaining two periods of play. Hunt stopped 35 of 38 for the win.

WATERLOO 6, YORK 4

At York, the Waterloo Warriors went back-and-forth with the host Lions before pulling out a 6-4 victory.

Both teams exchanged goals late in the first period, with Rob Labute (Tecumseh, Ont.) giving the Lions a 1-0 lead before Steve Whitely (Petrolia, Ont.) evened the score on the power play.

York restored its one-goal advantage early in the second period as Tyler Harrison (Whitby, Ont.) scored on the power play. But the Warriors responded with three-unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. Kurt Thorner (St. Thomas, Ont.), Shane Hart (Guelph, Ont.) and Aaron Lewicki (Mississauga, Ont.) each scored for Waterloo.

The Lions rallied in the third period to tie the score at 4-4. Cassidy Preston (North Bay, Ont.) and Jesse Grespan (Toronto) scored for York.

But the Warriors would answer again, as Kyle Schwende (Waterloo, Ont.) scored the game-winner with 4:30 remaining and Mark Hartman (Bacarres, Sask.) added insurance with a last-minute marker on the power play.

York out shot Waterloo 37-34.
