The Swift Current Broncos got a 3-goal performance from Justin Dowling Saturday night in a 5-4 victory over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings in Western Hockey League action.
The win gave the Broncos and Wheat Kings a split in their home and home weekend series as Brandon doubled up on Swift Current 4-2 in Friday's opener at Westman Place.
Saturday's loss snapped Brandon's season high 4-game win streak and left the Wheat Kings one point back of third place Medicine Hat in the WHL's Eastern Conference and seven behind the front running Saskatoon Blades in the East Division with a record of 17-11-0-2.
Aaron Lewadniuk scored twice in a losing cause on Saturday while Brandon got goals from four different players - Michael Ferland, Jay Fehr, Brodie Melnychuk and Brayden Schenn - in Friday's win.
Former Seattle Thunderbird netminder Jacob DeSerres picked up the win on Friday, turning aside 27 shots. Andrew Hayes made 30 saves in Saturday's loss in Swift Current.
The Wheat Kings are now idle until Wednesday night when they play host to the Blades in what will be the club's first of two Rain Check games of the 2009-10 campaign. Fans can turn in any unused ticket at the Keystone Centre box office for a free ticket to this game (regular Ticketmaster fees will apply).
As well, the first 2,500 fans in attendance on Wednesday will receive a "free" Whopper, courtesy of Burger King.
Wednesday is one of only four home games for the Wheat Kings during the month of December. The others are on Friday, December 11th vs. Kelowna; Saturday, December 12th vs. Edmonton Oil Kings and Saturday, December 19th vs. Moose Jaw.
