ST. CATHARINES—The Niagara IceDogs have announced they have
signed their first-round selection in this year’s Ontario
Hockey League priority draft.
Centre Andrew Agozzino has agreed to terms with the
IceDogs and will be among the 40 or so players who will
report to the Niagara training camp in St. Catharines on
Aug. 27.
“I feel very excited about signing,” said Agozzino.
“Being drafted was a very exciting day for me because all
the hard work and practices pay off. But signing means that
you’re not just drafted. You’re going to play.
“I think I have a good offensive game and I’m going to go
to camp, keep it simple and do whatever I can to help the
team win.”
The five-foot-eight, 165-pound Agozzino had an
outstanding season with the Mississauga IceDogs Minor Midget
team of the Greater Toronto Hockey League that won the OHL
Cup tournament in March. He scored 57 goals and added 65
assists for 122 points in 78 games. He also displayed
toughness with 160 penalty minutes.
“We’re happy to have him signed,” said Dave Brown,
general manager of the IceDogs. “You’re not very good at
recruiting if you can’t sign the players. We’re excited to
have Andrew under contract and it shows that people want to
be a part of our organization.”
Agozzino was one of 13 players from the Minor Midget
IceDogs who were drafted by OHL teams in the league’s
priority draft in May. |
