The IceDogs continued their quest towards the Memorial Cup tonight at the Gatorade Garden City Complex, as the Mississasuga Majors were in town for Game 3 of their first round playoff series. Heading into tonight's matchup the Dogs held a two games to none lead over the Majors, winning Game 1 by a score of 4-0 and winning Game 2 by a score of 3-1. Up to this point in the series, the main reason for the IceDogs success has been the stellar play of goaltender Sebastian Dahm. After recording a 29 save shutout in Game 1, Dahm was equally spectacular in Game 2 making 32 saves for the win. In tonight's game, Dahm was the story again, keeping his team in the game early and backstopping the Dogs to a 5-0 victory. In the Game 3 victory, Dahm made an impressive 33 saves for his second shutout of the series.

The play in the first period was fairly consistent with the with the style of play in the first two games of the series-lots of penalties and saves by Dahm. For the third game in a row the Majors outshot the IceDogs in the first period, 15-9, but Dahm proved to be up to the task. Dahm made a few highlight reel saves in the period, including one where he came across the crease to stop Majors forward Casey Cizikas who had the wide open cage. The Dogs finally gave their goalie a lead to play with at the 8:58 mark of the first, as forward Chris DeSousa (1) took the pass from Jordan Foreman and beat Mississauga goaltender Chris Carrozzi for the 1-0 lead after one.

Dahm continued his stellar play in the second period, robbing Zac Rinaldo with the glove and making a beautiful splits save to stop Dustin Ekelman who broke in short handed. Dahm made nine saves in the period, while his counterpart Carrozzi kept his team in the game with 19 saves in the period.

After playing two relatively sloppy periods, the IceDogs finally seemed to get things going in the third period. Only forty three seconds into the frame the Dogs added to their lead, as Jordan Foreman (2) took the feed from Alex Pietrangelo and wired a wrist shot that beat the screened Carrozzi for the 2-0 lead. The Dogs added a third goal at the 5:34 mark of the period, as Michael Swift jumped up into the rush after getting out of the penalty box and he found Luca Caputi (1) in front of the net who beat Carrozzi to open up the 3-0 lead. Swift (3) followed his assist with a goal of his own at the 7:46 mark of the period. IceDogs defenseman Drew Schiestel made a fabulous play along the boards, avoiding two hits before finding Swift, who made no mistake in finding the the back of the net for the 4-0 lead. The wheels seemed to fall off for the Majors after the Dogs three goal outburst in the period, as they began taking undisciplined penalties and tried to mix it up with the IceDogs players at every chance they could get. Adding salt to the wound, Alex Pietrangelo (3) scored his third goal of the series, as he harmlessly sent the puck on net from an awkward angle in the corner, and it fooled Carrozzi, banking in off the goaltender for the 5-0 lead, which is how this game would end.

The three stars of the game were awarded to: Sebastian Dahm-33 save shutout (1st Star), Alex Pietrangelo- 1G, 2A (2nd Star) and Alex Friesen- a force throughout the game(3rd Star).

With the win the Dogs take a commanding three games to none lead in the series, with a chance to complete the sweep on Tuesday March 25th at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m and IceDogs fans are encouraged to make the trip down the OEW to cheer on the boys as they try to move into the second round of the playoffs.
