The Niagara Spears Football Club is proud to announce that Spears defensive back James Savoie and linebacker John Surla have been selected to Team Canada’s 40-man roster. The two Saint Michael High School students will travel to Fort Lauderdale for the NFL Global Junior (under 19) Championship from January 29th through February 3rd.

The final roster was selected by Head Coach Glen Constantin and his staff from over 120 players who attended selection camps in Rosemère, Quebec in mid-December. “The coaching staff was impressed with the determination and fitness level of the players at camp,’’ said Constantin. “We knew we were going to have to make difficult choices. There certainly wasn’t a shortage of talent. As well there are tournament rules to follow and one is you can’t select more than four players from the same club team. Still we feel we’ve put together a squad that will give us a strong opportunity to successfully defend our title.”

Team Canada Football heads to Orlando on January 22 for a preparatory camp. The tournament officially opens on January 28. The preliminary round games are January 31 from noon to 10 p.m., which will determine the finalists. The championship game is Saturday February 3 at 3 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

Panama makes its debut at the tournament and is in the American Division with Mexico and the U.S. Canada is in the National Division with Japan and France, the European champions.
