Steelheads fall to the Sarnia Sting. Game 3/68

It was a great Sunday to take in a game down at the Chocolate box, but unfortunately for the home faithful it wasn’t as the Mississauga Steelheads fell to the Sarnia Sting 2-1 in front of 1579 fans.

Game Report:

Not much to report to be honest. A solid number of minor penalties were taken in the game but overall was pretty evenly matched considering Sarnia was coming off of a blow out barn burner the night before. In my opinion Sarnia controlled the possession game most of the night. There forwards did a great job maintaining the play in the offensive end.

Sarnia got on the board first on a short handed goal from OHL super rookie sensation and one hell of a beast of a 16 year old Jakob Chychrun. His first career OHL goals was a blast from the point to put the sting up 1-0. But the lead wouldn’t last long as the Mississauga Steelheads tied it up as super speedy Bobby McIntyre finds the back of the net on the power play for his 1st goal of the campaign with assists going to Sean Day and Brandon Devlin.  But in the end it wouldn’t remain as again Jakob Chychrun blasts another one from the point to take a 2-1 lead and give the Sarnia Sting there first win of the season and hand the Steelheads there first loss of the season. Justin Fazio was the goalie of record for the Sarnia sting to push his record to 1-3 in just his 8th career OHL game. Spencer Martin fresh off his brand new contract with the Colorado Avalanche took the loss for the Steelheads and his record falls to 2-1.

-This was the Mississauga Steelheads first game against the west this year

-Today’s game was the 250th career regular season OHL game for Brandon Devlin. I know its not a number people normally celebrate but only about a handful of players every year graduate the OHL with 3oo games on there resume and Brandon is well on his way to doing that!

-Stefan Leblanc left the game briefly after taking a puck to what looked to be his chest, he returned with in about 45 seconds

-Sean Day continues to impress, played the body well and added his 5th point of the season!

-The game day in house show just keeps getting better and better. The people behind the scenes such as the ticket scanners, Bait shop cashiers, Concessions sales, the ice crew, time keeper, the in house DJ, in house host Aly Munro and her team, the box office crew, the managers, etc I could go on all day. But just so you know you guys do a hell of a job and us fans that take this in game by game couldn’t appreciate this as much with out you. You make this the best experience possible.

Sebastian’s Pick 3:

3) Spencer Martin, Stopped 30-32 shots. Kept the Steelheads in the game. Never lost composure.

2) Bobby McIntyre, Scored his first of what looks to be many this year to tie the game. Was always involved, used his game changing speed often. Won a lot of battles.

1) Jakob Chychrun. This was a no brain er . This kid is the real deal and deserved the first star award today. His first 2 goals of the campaign were absolute beauties from the point. He is going to be fun to watch over the next few years.
