Mitchell Marner Powers the Knights Past the Sudbury Wolves

Sudbury came to  London  Sunday  afternoon , on  the heels of a victory over the Niagara IceDogs last night , snapping a 13 game losing streak .  London on  the other hand was riding a 5 game winning streak .   Both teams were playing their third game in  as many days ,  and it showed .  Play started slow and sloppy , London  coach Dale Hunter inverted his lines , the third and fourth lines saw first and second line ice time .  Sudbury couldn’t sustain  any pressure in  the offensive zone  .   Call up Eric Henderson ,  a third round draft pick in 2014  , played his first game with  the Knights and opened the scoring , banging a puck past Wolves goalie Troy Timpano .  Sudbury would tie the score 3 minutes  later on a rather soft goal on Knights keeper Michael  Giugovaz .  Mitch  Marner on a goal scoring tear , put the Knights up  2-1 before the end of the period .

The second period saw Sudbury again tie the score at  2-2 , the posts were the Wolves best friend as London  hit 3 of them before periods end .   London  ran into penalty trouble in  the second ,  a result of being tired and not moving their feet .  As a result Sudbury took  the play to London for a considerable stretch ,  the shot total  would reflect that  by the second period buzzer 39-28 .  Drake Rymsha and the aforementioned Marner would put the Knights ahead 4-2 for good .

The third period London would have to kill off their third 5 on  3 ,  which  was successful .  Sudbury was gassed by the puck  drop ,  London  would find the back  of the net 3 more times , Yakimowicz , Berisha  and Marner  adding goals  .  Marners goal was his seventh in three games , it also was his second hat trick in2 games .  London goalie Michael Giugovaz was good when called upon , facing 47 shots .  London improves to  10-6 on  the year and runs its winning streak to 6 games .  Next up is a Thursday night game at home against the Guelph Storm .

A little about myself , first and foremost I’m a hockey fan,  I have been involved with hockey in one form or another since I was a little kid.  I remember going to the old London Gardens watching the London Knights ,  I was a fan from that moment and have followed them ever since . This is the second year that I will be reporting on the Knights and I am looking forward to a long playoff run with this version of the Green and Gold.

Sucks that he is in the same draft category as the best player in the world outside the NHL! Otherwise he would be the talk of the CHL! Such a fun player to watch! Can’t wait to see him on Nov 30th! If you want to come to the game let me know!
