Colts Roll over London, Win Streak Hits 7

On a night of blowing, freezing rain in Barrie, the London Knights’ game seemed to have stayed home due to the weather. The damp but enthusiastic crowd was treated to a romping win by their hometown Colts, and a decisive victory over a cross-division rival.

It was the Knights that actually struck first in the game, less than a minute into the opening period – Chris Martenet from Zach Grzelewski – but from there it was all Barrie. After a short-handed goal by the Colts, the floodgates opened and Barrie tallied 3 goals in 40 seconds, chasing starting goalie Tyler Parsons after only eight minutes of play. London backup Michael Giugovaz didn’t fare much better, and it was 5-1 Barrie after one period.

London came out with a bit better game plan to start the second period, but couldn’t solve Barrie net minder Mackenzie Blackwood. After Joseph Blandisi scored a power play goal for the Colts, the Knights collapsed and ended the second period down 8-1.

Barrie essentially dominated this game from start to finish, both on the score sheet and in physical play. With this win the Colts have now won 7 straight, and have just one loss in their past 13 games. The team seems to be hitting their stride at just the right time this season, though they will need to prove they can beat other top teams in the league.
