Colts Need Shootout to Defeat Kingston

The Barrie Colts could learn a thing or two from the Kingston Frontenacs. Last night in Barrie, the home team outshot the visiting Fronts 36-24, and yet it took a shootout for the Colts to eventually emerge as the winner. While Kingston goalie Lucas Peressini played solid, much of the credit has to go to his team’s defence, who limited the number of second chances and high-quality scoring opportunities against him. With the OHL playoffs well within reach for Barrie, the Colts are going to need to find a way to counteract the potent offence of other top teams.

Leading the offensive push for Barrie was forward Justin Scott, who notched his 20th goal in the third to tie the game at 2, and also scored the shootout winner on a pretty backhand move. Garrett Hooey also had a goal and an assist, and for once Barrie even had fewer penalty minutes than their opponents.

The extra point helped the Colts stay ahead of North Bay in the standings, who also won last night, beating Plymouth last night 5-3. Barrie plays tonight at Mississauga, and again tomorrow versus Sudbury.
