Colts Hang On To Take Game One

On Thursday night the Barrie Colts hosted the Belleville Bulls to kick off their first round series, and while on paper the Colts have a distinct advantage, the game was anything but lopsided.

The Bulls struck first on the power play. With captain Joseph Blandisi in the box, Belleville’s leading scorer Jordan Subban took a blast from the point that found it’s way to the back of the net, and Barrie ended the first period down 1-0.

Barrie got a hard-work goal in the second, thanks to some strong play by Justin Scott down low. That goal seemed to give the team some momentum, and the Colts added two more unanswered goals before the end of the period.

For a while it looked like Barrie might run away with the game, but Belleville really started going hard to the net in the third, and were rewarded with a doorstep goal that led to a nail-biting finish. With the Belleville net empty, the Colts were able to display some strong defensive play, including some strong board play low in their own end, and hold off the Bulls attack and take the win.

Game two is on Monday at 7:30 in Barrie.
