Max Jones Will Be Counted on to Lead the Knights This Season

It seems more and more that the Knights may be without their big two offensive threats this season, namely Mitch Marner and Matthew Tkachuk. Marner has impressed this season in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs and can only play in the NHL or back down with the Knights. Tkachuk has also been impressive with the Calgary Flames in the short time he has been there. If they do not return to the Knights this season Anaheim Ducks first round pick MAx Jones will be counted on to be the leader for London on and off the ice. The 6’3″ power forward has already amassed 15 points in 6 games with the Knights and has a +9 rating.
If London is to challenge for the OHL title Jones will have to keep up his torrid scoring pace and adjust his game to be less prone to taking foolish penalties. His chemistry with top line center Cliff Pu is at a peak as the pair are a great combo together. Pu has great speed with nifty hands and seems to find Jones in the open areas in the offensive zone.
London cruised to a 5-1 victory Friday night at Budweiser Gardens against the young and much weaker Saginaw Spirit. London netted the 5 goals on only 28 shots in the game. The aforementioned Jones collected 4 points and Pu finished the game with a pair of assists. London was again without Tyler Parsons as Tyler Johnson was between the pipes for the Knights. Johnson had arguably his best game of the season allowing only one goal on 38 shots, with 31 of those shots coming in the final two periods. He seems to have found his stride after struggling out of the gate in his first few appearances.
London enjoyed a day off Saturday before heading to Hamilton to take on the up and coming Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon. It would prove to be an easy test for the Knights as second year Knight Sam Miletic opened the scoring :32 seconds into the game and didn’t look back recording a 7-2 victory. Tyler Johnson again had the net for the Knights and had little work on the afternoon stopping 17 of 19 shots he faced. The Bulldogs looked tired and uninterested for the balance of the game. But the Knights will take the 2 points and will be off until Friday when they host the Soo Greyhounds at Budweiser Gardens.
