Falcons win thriller over Warriors

December 21, 2007The Falcons were back in action Friday
night inside Jack Gatecliff Arena against the visiting
Stoney Creek Warriors. The Mountainview Homes Falcons were
coming off their first loss in December from the previous
night against the Thorold Blackhawks.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the first period,
stealing an early lead at the 4:04 mark of the period.
Jordan Winger netted a power-play goal, from Marcus Ruberto
and Adam Montgomery, to go up 1-0 over the Mountainview
Homes Falcons.
St. Catharines tied the score 1-1 past the halfway mark
of the same period, when Dan Ziraldo scored his second goal
of the season. Vladimir Bessonov and Riley Sheahan assisted
on the goal. The period ended in a 1-1 tie.
Jake Guidon gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead in the second
period with a short-handed unassisted goal at the 11:40 mark
of the second.
The Falcons once again tied the game up, this time from
Falcons captain Kevin Floris, also on the power-play.
Ziraldo assisted on Floris's goal at the 17:21 minute mark.
The game remained tied 2-2 into the second intermission.
The third period opened with an unassisted goal from
Bessonov of the Falcons, to push St. Catharines up 3-2 over
the Warriors. Bessonov's goal came at 3:27 of the third.
Stoney Creek took a turn tying the game, this time from
Mike Kavanagh, on the power-play, with helpers from Cayle
Creen and Adam Montgomery. The time of Stoney Creek's third
goal was 8:14.
St. Catharines jumped out to a 4-3 lead just over a
minute later with Daultan Leveille's 21st goal of the
regular season. Ryan Elbers and Stevenson added assists on
the play.
With 4:26 left in the third period, the Stoney Creek
Warriors tied the game 4-4 with an even-strength goal from
Montgomery, his third point of the night.
The Falcons scored the eventual game winner at 18:33 of
the third with a power-play goal from Falcons forward
Bessonov, assist to Leveille. The game winning goal earned
Bessonov the game's first star for two goals and one assist
on the evening.
Attendance inside Jack Gatecliff Arena Friday night was
announced at 472 fans.
The Falcons are off on Christmas break until they visit
the Stoney Creek Warriors for their first game of 2008. The
Falcons are at Valley Park Arena on Thursday, January 3rd,
for a 7:30pm start.
The Falcons next home game is Friday, January 4th, when
the Fort Erie Meteors travel to Jack Gatecliff Arena for a
7:30pm start. |
