The Mountainview Homes Falcons won their last game of the
regular season Saturday night, taking the Stoney Creek
Warriors down by a score of 5-2 in front of 325 fans. The
win pushed the Falcons into a tie for second place overall
with the Niagara Falls Canucks, though Niagara Falls takes
second because they have more wins than St. Catharines.
The Falcons were scoreless in the first period at Stoney
Creek, while Warriors forward Mike Kavanagh beat St.
Catharines netminder Steele De Fazio with an even-strength
goal at 16:19 of the first. Andrew Dovey assisted on the
goal.
The Falcons held the Warriors scoreless in the second
period, and grabbed two goals themselves, skating into the
second intermission with a 2-1 lead. Chris Stevenson beat
Warriors goaltender Patrick Sullivan at the 6:10 mark of the
second. Ryan Elbers scored the Falcons other goal, notching
it at the 12:00 minute mark.
St. Catharines opened up the game in the third period,
bursting out of the gate with three goals to go up 5-2
before the end of the game. Dylan McInnis (PP), JT MacDonald
and Riley Sheahan (PP) all scored for the Falcons, while
Curtis Winger grabbed a late period goal for the Warriors.
After a 49-game regular season, the Falcons will now meet
the Stoney Creek Warriors in the first round of the
playoffs. Dates and times will be worked out immediately and
the first round schedule will be released shortly. |
