Miles Torch and the Port Colborne Sailors docked at Lock
Three of the Welland Canal Friday night to face off against
the St. Catharines Mountainview Homes Falcons for the first
time this season inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena.
The first 20 minutes of play proved scoreless for both
teams. The Falcons were penalized 6 times in the first
period for 12 minutes, while the Sailors were sent to the
box three times for 6 minutes.
The Sailors scored first in the second, grabbing an
unassisted power-play goal just 20 seconds into the period.
Curtis Longland put Port Colborne ahead 1-0.
The Falcons returned the favour 15 seconds later when
Daultan Leveille scored his 6th goal of the season to tie
the game 1-1. Forward Riley Sheahan grabbed an assist on the
goal.
The Falcons jumped out to a 2-1 lead with 11:42 remaining
in the second period when Ryan Elbers grabbed his third goal
of the year during a delayed penalty call against the
Sailors, who were already playing a man short from an
earlier penalty call.
Neither team could pull the trigger for the remainder of
the period so the Falcons carried the 2-1 lead into the 2nd
intermission. The home team also lead in shots on net over
the visiting Sailors by a tally of 30-8 after 40 minutes of
play.
The Falcons took out an insurance policy near the start
of the third period, grabbing a 3-1 lead with 16:11
remaining in the period. Daultan Leveille recored his third
point of the night with his second goal of the game while on
the power-play. Captain Kevin Floris and forward Ryan Elbers
assisted on the play.
Port Colborne continued to fight back, however, grabbing
their second goal of the game with less than 6 minutes
remaining in the third period. Longland of the Sailors
grabbed his second goal of the game to make the score 3-2.
Daultan Leveille completed his hat-trick Friday night,
giving the Falcons a 4-2 lead with just under 4 minutes
remaining in the game. Riley Sheahan's assist on the
hat-trick gave him a total of 3 points on the night for the
Falcons.
The Sailors couldn't bounce back from another two goal
deficit, and the Falcons earned the win after 60 minutes of
play to jump into a three-way tie with Stoney Creek and
Niagara Falls for first place overall.
Attendance inside the Jack Gatecliff Arena Friday night
was announced at 729 fans.
The Falcons next game is on the road this Thursday,
October 4th, when they travel to Thorold to face the
Blackhawks. Game time on top of the escarpment is set for
7:30pm.
The Falcons next home game is Friday, October 5th, when
the Stoney Creek Warriors visit the home of the Falcons for
the first time this season. |
