IceCats Crush Comets in Opener

The St. Catharines IceCats opened their inaugural Continental Professional Hockey League season with a convincing 10-4 victory over the Philadelphia Comets at the St. Catharines SportsPlex.

St. Catharines opened the scoring with a goal by Josh Powers less than 3 minutes into the opening period.  Philadelphia got one of their own before Eric Shultz put the IceCats back into the lead.  The teams headed into the dressing rooms with the IceCats ahead 3-1.

The second period saw St. Catharines outscore Philadelphia 5-2.  Bryan Shepherd of the IceCats scored back to back goals less than four minutes apart and Shultz notched his second goal of the evening.

St. Catharines increased their lead to 9-3 when Dustin Fisher found the back of the net at the 1:26 mark of the third period.  Philadelphia would get one more goal before Shultz closed out the scoring with his third goal to complete the hat trick.

The IceCats next home game is Sunday evening against the Pittsburg Pounders.  Game time at the St. Catharines SportsPlex is 7:30.
