The Pittsburgh
franchise of the Continental Professional Hockey
League would like to announce they now have a
nickname.
After much thought,
League Director of Franchise Development Chris
Schweitzer has come up with the name Pounders. The
team logo will be released within the next week.
"I put much thought
into what would suit Pittsburgh for a team
nickname," says Schweitzer. "The colors will go
along with the city and the logo will represent
Pittsburgh very well."
The team will wear
the typical Pittsburgh colors of gold, black and
white.
"We feel that the
right colors to use would be typical Pittsburgh
colors of gold, black and white," says team
President Mark Cerini. "We feel the fans will love
the look of our jerseys and merchandise with these
colors and the logo that is coming."
The Pounders will
open the pre-season with a home and home series
against the Soo in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan
November 5 in the Soo and back home November 6. They
will then open the regular season with a 3 game
series starting November 11 in the Soo. They will
open up at home November 19 against the Philadelphia
Comets.
The team schedule
will be released within the next week as well.
