Mike Kavanagh admits he was a bit surprised when he was
presented with the Golden Horseshoe League Player of the
Month for December last weekend.During
Saturday night’s game against Port Colborne, GHL convenor
Leo Lostracco made the announcement that the Warriors’
captain had been selected by coaches from around the league
to receive the award.
“To be honest, I owe it all to my
linemates Greg Bryl and Adam Montgomery,” said Kavanagh, who
recorded seven goals and five assists in December, as the
Warriors posted four wins in six games. “We’ve been playing
pretty well, and our line is really clicking.”
Despite missing the entire month of
October due to injury, Kavanagh has been one of the
Warriors most reliable forwards. In 26 games, the
20-year-old Stoney Creek native has 18 goals and 22 assists.
In his last year of junior hockey,
Kavanagh said he believes the Warriors are poised to make a
serious run at the GHL championship this year.
“We’ve proven ourselves to be one of
the top teams in the league,” he said. “As a group, we’re
confident, and feel good about the way things are going.
When we’re firing on all cylinders, we’re a tough team to
beat.” |
