Warriors perfect in weekend action

November 10, 2007The Stoney Creek Warriors scored a hat
trick of victories this weekend, with three wins in three
nights and regaining first place in the Golden Horsehsoe
League.
Stoney Creek kicked off the winning streak Thursday night
with a 9-5 win over the visiting Fort Erie Meteors.
Friday night the Warriors travelled to St. Catharines and
handed the Falcons a 5-4 loss. The win was Stoney Creek's
first in four tries this season versus St. Catharines.
Jordan Gignac led the charge for the Warriors, who jumped
out a 4-0 lead and held on in the final period for the win.
Also picking up goals were Mike Kavanagh, Andrew Dovey
and Jamie Osborne.
The Falcons got goals from Ryan Elbers, Riley Sheahan,
Vladimir Bessonov and Brandon McGregor.
Dylan Ellis turn aside 43 of 47 shots for the win. Steele
DeFazio took the loss in nets for the Falcons.
On Saturday night, Nov. 10, the Warriors paid tribute to
local veterans in attendance with a 6-3 win over the
Wheatfield Blades.
The special We Remember game was in honour of Canada's
brave men and women who have served the country and fought
for freedom.
The Warriors looked a little tired in the first period,
and the Blades capitalized scoring just over two minutes
into the opening frame. Robby McAndrew picked up the power
play marker for Wheatfield.
Dovey tied the game a 1-1 with a power play marker just
over two minutes later, assisted by Kavanagh and Gignac.
The Blades regained a one goal lead at the 12:13 mark,
with Nathan Foley banging home a rebound.
The Warrirors responded at the 13:29 mark with a power
play goal scored by Gignac. Kavanagh and Dovey picked up the
helpers.
The Warriors finally gained the lead midway through the
second period. Kavanagh scored to make it 3-2, with assists
to Greg Bryl and Sean Murray.
The Blades tied the game at the 15:31 mark when Mark
Degiullio banged home a strange bounce off the glass behind
the net.
Adam Montgomery scored what proved to be the game winner
at the 18:02 mark of the second period. The power play goal
was assisted by Osborne and Bryl.
The Warriors added two more goals in the third period to
make the final 6-3 for Stoney Creek.
Bryl scored his second of the season, assisted by Murray
and Dovey. Gignac, who earned first star honours for the
third straight game, picked up his second of the game on the
power play, with Mike Gibson and Montgomery getting the
assists.
Garrett Driscoll eared the win in nets for the Warriors.
Joseph Johansen took the loss for Wheatfield.
The Warriors are on the road next weekend, with a tilt
Saturday, Nov. 17 in Fort Erie.
Stoney Creek will head to Port Colborne Nov. 23, and then
host the Niagara Falls Canucks Nov. 24 at Stoney Creek
Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m. |
