The Stoney Creek Warriors completed a three-game sweep of
the pesky Wheatfield Jr. Blades with a 4-2 win at Valley
Park Arena Oct. 11.
The Warriors played three straight games against their US
rivals, starting with a 6-5 win last Saturday, Oct. 6.
On October 9, the Warriors travelled to Buffalo State
College Arena and handed the Blades a 9-5 drubbing.
The third game of the mini-series was played back in
Stoney Creek Oct. 11.
The two teams exchanged goals in a tightly-contested
first period. Jordan Gignac put the Warriors up 1-0 at the
14:10 mark, on a pretty feed from Cayle Creen and Mike
Gibson.
Wheatfield responded just 23 seconds later to tie the
game when Chris Fabozzi banged home a loose puck in front of
Warriors' netminder Garrett Driscoll. Scott Retzlaff and
Mike Pratt earned the assists.
The Warriors took a two goal lead early in the second
period. Mitchell Merante, after a tenacious drive to the
net, scored at the 3:28 mark. Adam Montgomery and Jordan
Poole picked up the assists.
Jesse Healy scored the eventual game winner at the 8:17
mark, assisted by David Ruberto and Merante.
Daniel Kaufman brought the Blades to within one goal at
the 14:12 mark. JP Witkop and Tysen Azevedo picked up the
assists.
Jamie Osborne put the game out of reach at the 13:05 mark
of the third while the Warriors enjoyed a powerplay. Gignac
and Jake Lyons earned the assists.
Driscoll earned the win in net, his fourth of the season.
Brian Kalczynski took the loss for Wheatfield.
The Warriors out-scored the Blades 19-12 over the three
games.
Stoney Creek will look to avenge last week's loss to St.
Catharines as they host the Falcons at Valley Park Arena
Oct. 13. Game time is 7:30 p.m. |
