The Stoney Creek Warriors rebounded from a tough 3-0 home
loss Oct. 18, and halted their longest losing streak of the
season at two games.
Playing a home-and-home series with Port Colborne, Stoney
Creek dropped the front end Oct. 18 with one of their worst
performances of the season.
However, the Warriors rebounded Oct. 19 in Port Colborne
with a solid effort.
Missing power forwards Mike Kavanagh and Greg Bryl, along
with veteran defenceman Sean Murray, Stoney Creek got on the
board early and never looked back.
David Ruberto got things rolling just 44 seconds into the
opening period, when he connected from Jake Lyons and Andrew
Dovey.
GHL league scoring leader Dovey made it 2-0 at the 5:88
mark, as he beat Sailors netminder Brendan Sullivan with a
hart wrist shot from the front of the net. D. Ruberto and
Riley Steeves picked up the assists.
Port Colborne narrowed the gap to 2-1 when Tanner McGowan
slipped one past Warriors netminder Garrett Driscoll at the
6:12 mark of the third.
Adam Montgomery put the game out of reach at the 18:19
mark, when he scored a powerplay marker assisted by Dovey
and Cayle Creen.
Driscoll was solid in net, turning aside 29 of 30 shots.
Brad Borgatti and Jamie Osborne had an entertaining scrap
in the second. This was the Warriors first fight of the
season.
Strong performances by the Kid Line - Marcus Ruberto,
Jordan Winger and Jason Popek, as well as defencemen Aaron
Gorka and Cayle Creen.
The Warriors were forced to kill off 10 powerplays,
including two extended five-on-threes.
Penalty minutes were 29 for Stoney Creek, and 15 for Port
Colborne.
The Warriors are back in action tonight at home when they
face off against the Niagara Falls Canucks. Game time at
Valley Park Arena is 7:30 p.m. |
