Warriors remain unbeaten

The Stoney Creek Warriors preserved their unbeaten record
with an 8-4 win over Fort Erie Sept. 20 at Valley Park
Arena.
Andrew Dovey led the way with a pair of goals to pace the
Warriors past the Meteors.
The two teams were back and forth in the first period,
with the Warriors gaining a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes.
Fort Erie was first on the board as Kyle Steckley got the
goal scoring barrage started just 1:57 second into the
first. The powerplay marker was a assisted by Ian Fairgrieve.
Jess Healy responded for Stoney Creek just under a minute
later, assisted by David Ruberto.
Andrew Letwin, with his first of two on the night,
notched a powerplay marker at the 8:34 mark. The goal
prompted the Warriors to make a goaltending change, as
Garrett Driscoll was replaced by Dylan Ellis.
Adam Montgomery tied the game at 2-2 at the 17:54 mark,
assisted by Jamie Osborne.
Jordan Winger made it 3-2 at the 18:44 mark, assisted by
Jason Popek. Fort Erie scored its third powerplay marker of
the night just 2:57 seconds into the second period. Letwin,
with his second, took a blast from the point that got by
Ellis.
Andrew Dovey gave the Warriors a 4-3 lead at the 11:21
mark. Greg Bryl, playing his first game in a Warriors'
jersey, earned the assist on the powerplay marker.
Dustin Dunseith tied the game at 4-4 just under a minute
later. Steckley earned the assist.
Mike Kavanagh closed out the period with what proved to
be the game winning goal at the 15:14 mark. Dovey and Bryl
earned the assists.
Stoney Creek scored three straight goals in the third to
take the 8-4 final. Dovey, Popek and Osborne recorded the
goals. Assists went to Kavanagh, Winger and Riley Steeves.
The Warriors are now unbeaten in three GHL league games
this season, and are tied with Niagara Falls for first
place. The team travels to Fort Erie Saturday for a rematch
with the Meteors, and then heads to Welland next Tuesday. |
